PARISH YOUTH CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS BY BRINGING JOY TO OTHERS! In
December, 2008 and again in January, 2009, the Junior Youth Group of
St. George Parish brought Christmas joy to the Ukrainian residents at
Hillsdale Care Centre. Residents and youth, along with senior parish
volunteers, gathered in the Hillsdale chapel for a Christmas Divine
Liturgy. Following the Liturgy, the youth sang Ukrainian Christmas
carols and helped to serve traditional baked goods and coffee. The youth also carolled in the homes of a number of elderly shut-in members of the parish. Concerned
about the growing number of hungry people in the city of Oshawa, the
youth conducted a winter-long FOOD DRIVE at the parish. All
contributions were turned over to Simcoe Hall Settlement House for
distribution to the needy. Our
parish youth gather on Friday nights in the basement level of the
church. They even have their own "pad", a large room furnished with an
old ping-pong table and a television set. Here the youth hang out and
plan their strategies. You might find them making chocolates to sell at
the annual church bazaar or planning what to serve with coffee after
Divine Liturgy on Youth Sunday.
Below, youth prepare a backdrop for the
children's nativity play, "The Glory of Bethlehem".
